Well how did this all start?

  • Xigglie Saffron Two-Up Plant Stand parts un-assembled.

During the quiet days of lockdown, stuck at home, I was lucky to be surrounded by the company of plants.  They weren't just decoration - they were a source of comfort, joy, and a reminder of growth in still times.

As an architect for some time I’d wanted to design and make something using CNC technology, feeling it's real strength was underutilised.  While decluttering I’d found collections of leftover screws and tools from flat-pack furniture - an environmental waste no doubt found worldwide. Together these two things inspired me to set out to design self-assembly items that wouldn’t require screws, glue, or any tools - fun projects that could be simply slotted together like giant jigsaw puzzles, accessible to all (no skills required).

So why not start with something that celebrated my green leafed friends in a joyful way?

Driven to create something fun, I envisioned plant stands that would be functional, sustainable, and bring creative joy through the self-assembly process and beyond - pieces that would raise a smile and bring enjoyment day after day.

I aimed to achieve a perfect balance of simplicity, functionality, and aesthetic design - something I call Ukiwusi. It's when you see something that not only meets your expectations but exceeds them in an undefinable way, giving you a magical feeling, and hitting an 11 out of 10!

After many prototypes and testing (and a move from London to Sydney!) I finally inched towards my Ukiwusi moment and Xigglie was born.

Each plant stand is crafted from 18mm Birch Plywood or vibrant coloured Forescolor board, featuring a playful wiggle design that's simple yet full of character. They arrive at your doorstep flat-packed, ready for you to assemble without any screws, glues, or tools! (yay!)

All packaging is 100% recycled and biodegradable, with no metal tags, or plastics. We've also skipped additional coatings, leaving each stand unfinished. Inviting you to unleash your creativity or let the material shine. It's up to you!

Our stands offer a decorative way to celebrate the plants you love. By choosing Xigglie, you're enhancing your space and making an eco-friendly choice that helps protect our planet.

  • A Xigglie Sage Middie Wide Plant Stand. Australian designed and made in green moisture-resistant MDF. Supporting plant in yellow pot.

Xigglie isn't mass produced (#boutiqueisbetter). We've committed to manufacturing in countries with strong Environmental Protection Laws, Health & Safety and Workers Rights Legislation. Which is why we're starting out manufacturing right here in Australia. Because of these commitments costs are naturally a little bit higher, but we believe how and where you spend your money is the best way to effect change for a better, fairer world.

We're starting with Birch Ply and lively greens and yellows, with more colours and mix-and-match options to come. We're also exploring sustainable materials like 100% recycled plastics, reclaimed wood, and bamboo to keep the joy - and the planet - thriving.

And we're not stopping there. More plant stand designs and other furniture ideas are on the way - all screw, glue and tool-free assemblies for you to get creative with!
